Bringing Pets to Punta Cana
If you have a pet that you would like to bring to Punta Cana, the good news is that it’s a straightforward process: just make sure that you have all the correct documentation before travelling.

Before deciding to bring a dog or cat into the Dominican Republic, you should be aware of the following requirements:

  • Before departing, ensure that you have a veterinarian's certificate of vaccination against rabies, issued at least 30 days prior to entry into the Dominican Republic.
  • Upon arrival at any Dominican Republic Airport, ask for the Animal Control Officer (Sanidad Animal in Spanish). Animal Control will review your veterinarian certificates and fill in the official pet entry permission form required at a cost of approximately US $10.
  • After arrival, you need to obtain a Dominican Republic veterinarian's certificate of health within fourteen days.
  • Your pet could be held in quarantine for up to 30 days if these requirements are not met.

The Dominican Republic doesn’t require that a pet be micro chipped for identification, but we highly recommend that you do so prior to coming here in case your pets become lost or separated from you. If you choose not to have your pets micro chipped, make sure that they are wearing tags that identify them and have your contact information.
